Gold Filigree Bead Necklace

  • 5500

Starting in the late 1780s, you start to see gold beaded necklaces come into fashion. They show up frequently in portraits from the 1790s and remain popular into the 1840s and beyond. They are a wonderful addition to a historical impression particularly for the American Federal period.

I was delighted to find these gorgeous vintage gold-toned beads. They are light as air thanks to being hollow. You'll barely know you are wearing them they are so comfortable and light. Since these are vintage materials I'm not sure what they are made of, but I think they are gold-plated brass. There is a possibility that they could contain Nickel so if you have a Nickel allergy I recommend selecting another style.

This necklace is made with 8mm beads and measures 16" long with a 2" extender chain. As you can see in the portraits, these are meant to be worn right at the base of the neck.
